One of the most irritating and menial tasks I had to do as a textile designer was to go the printers. In India the printers have these unique locations, tucked away in some god forsaken corner of the city where the female population is zero, all the men stare at you as if men from Earth but women from mars (not even venus).
The other unique part of it is that other mode transports like bus or autorickshaw is not an option...but this unique vehicle called vikram or chhakra (jazzier version of an auto rickshaw) with all sorts of creepy men.
But having cribbed so much i would like to confess that i actually enjoy my excursions to the printers..just simply watching and travelling with people and wondering about there lives..the commotion on roads... their language... its all quite fascinating.
The best part though is the colours ..the variety one gets to see. I love the way the colours are splattered all over....... mixing to form different patterns and shades. It is just fun sitting and watching one's design take form and colour ..the squigee is like a magic wand..one sweep n you have the colours.
